Garmisch -Partenkirchen

So you want to see a more traditional part of Germany where, probably, any existing cliché fits?
Well then, let's go to

Garmisch- Partenkirchen

To be honest, this is one of my preferred towns in Germany.  It just seems to conserve such a lot of traditional values, crafts and  spirit- it is always a pleasure to be there. In winter just as well as in spring and summer it's a pretty little town which offers a lot to do in your free time.

THE CITY
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a small sized city in the very South of Germany close to the border to Austria. surrounded by the Alps and a great view of Germany's highest mountain Zugspitzethe the town is located idyllicaly. Separated in two parts Garmisch and Partenkirchen you will find as well two different parts of the city. Whereas Garmisch is the more modern part with shopping malls ans sports centres, Partenkirchen is still very traditional in its appearance.

WHERE TO STAY
There are a couple of possibilites where to spend  the nights of your faboulous holiday and surely this depends on your personal preferences. In my opinion, it's best to find yourself a cute small apartment which you can rent for a couple of days. Call the Tourist Information
(or see their website) they are more than willing to assist you with any kind of enquiry and they are really friendly! There are lots of private persons renting out flats they own for short periods of time and the staff at Tourist Information knows them well.
If you prefer a luxury Hotel instead of an apartment try the Treff Hotel Alpina
which is luxurious, cosy and and very tradiotional bavarian at the same time. They do have great wellness offers as well!

WHAT TO DO
There is a great number of things to such as going to a traditional bavarian farmer's market on wednesdays and saturdays or watching ski jumpers participating in competitions- you will find an activity you like!
Whether you're there in winter or in summer it is a MUST to visit the Zugspitze and enjoy the panormaic view.
Getting started with winter activities it is vital to know that there is a lot of snow in town. Therefore it's great to go skiing or do any kind of snowy acitivities you can think of. Some rellay nice ideas you can find on the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Homepage Winter Activities.
In summer, you should go see the spectacular landscape whilst hiking on on eof the numerous hiking paths around town. Some of the places to see you find here Summer Activities.

FOOD
Bavarian food is probably the most clichéd german  food ever, however it is delicious.
Once you're in Garmisch-Partenkirchen it really is essential to go to a Biergarten, a typical bavarian restaurant where you sit outside on wooden benches at wooden tables.

Hope to see you soon in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, tschüß!
